As the colours orange, black, and white combine on the performance design, the Air Jordan 1 Low Golf "Shattered Backboard" flips the traditional non-OG palette. The AJ1 Low Golf is constructed with suede overlays as well as leather panels, rather than using leather throughout the whole shoe.

The golf-ready model pays a fair amount of tribute to its source material. With a vivid orange covering the toe cap, outsole, and heel, the colour blocking and hues themselves are similar to the original pair. The Blacks are placed next to each other closely, laid together in a nubuck material that is significantly darker than the Air Jordan 1 Low Golf Shattered Backboard. The leather on the white mid-panel is different from the leather on the original "Shattered Backboard" in that it is much more tumbled. The Wings logo is imprinted in white on the heeltab and GOLF is sewn beneath the Jumpman on the tongue. The white rubber midsole is matched with an orange outsole that has prominent teeth and nubs for gripping and stability in the fairways or rough.

The Air Jordan 1 Low was originally released in several colourways, mirroring the High releases and served as a casual take on the signature high-top. Apart from basketball players, there was another group who immediately took to the AJ1 Low – skateboarders. The skateboarders found that the low-top was more comfortable for tricks.
